Portage, Inc., is a full-service engineering and environmental remediation services company based in Idaho. The company was established in Idaho Falls in 1992 by Mike Spry, Nick Stanisich, Kevin Poor, and Harry Fugate, who originally met while working at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (now the Idaho National Laboratory). Since its inception, Portage has grown from a small office in Idaho Falls to a 400-employee firm with offices throughout the United States. While the company headquarters still reside in Idaho Falls, major offices are also located in Los Alamos, NM; Carlsbad, NM; and San Antonio, TX. Portage supports projects in 20 different states as well as Guam, Iraq, Japan, and South Korea. Portage has provided engineering, environmental remediation and other technical services to Department of Energy (DOE) sites around the country, including the Idaho National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in New York, the Mound site in Ohio, and the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Kentucky. At these DOE sites, we have performed many large and complex projects totaling as much as $80M annually. Portage has also supported the Department of Defense (DoD) through its Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) Global Engineering, Integration and Technical Assistance (GEITA) contract. Through GEITA we have supported more than 100 DoD installations worldwide, performing up to $18M of work annually. In addition to supporting DOE and DoD and their contractors, Portage works with a wide range of other clients, including the Bureau of Land Management, Idaho and Montana departments of Environmental Quality, and the U.S. Forest Service as well as private industry. Throughout its history, Portage has been a good corporate citizen and generous benefactor in the communities where we are located, supporting economic development, education programs, and local and small businesses. The company has assisted tribal governments in developing management strategies for environmental protection and resource development and has also provided employment opportunities, scholarships, internships, and mentoring to Native American and other disadvantaged students pursuing higher education in natural resource and environmental protection fields.
