8 Signs of Hormonal Imbalance in Women

Hormones affect not only the reproductive function of women but also the function of the whole organism. A hormonal malfunction, accompanied by a deterioration in well-being, a malfunction of the menstrual cycle, and the manifestation of infertility symptoms is called a hormonal imbalance.

1. Headaches

Headaches and migraines are closely related to the production of the female hormone estrogen. It controls the processes occurring in the brain that soften or exacerbate pain. A decrease in estrogen levels, sometimes also due to polycystic ovarian syndrome, can lead to headaches. Nearly two out of three women claim that the symptoms almost disappear upon reaching menopause. But they only increase for the remaining third part of women.

2. Irritability

Fluctuating hormone levels can have a direct effect on how the brain controls emotions and moods at different periods of menopause. Severe irritability is one of the side effects of this difficult period. Many women have an unstable emotional state before the onset of menopause.

3.Insomnia

Women’s ovaries stop producing enough progesterone (which is responsible for healthy sleep) before and during menopause. This symptom is a very disturbing sign. A lack of progesterone can cause serious difficulties with falling asleep.

4. Bad memory

Short-term memory loss or chronic forgetfulness can be caused by various factors. In particular, thyroid disfunction, stress, fatigue or loss of sleep can be a reason for bad memory. But it also depends on hormones. And we are talking about the low estrogen level again.

5. Chronic fatigue

Fatigue also occurs at different levels. You need to pay attention to it when it is a feeling of exhaustion, accompanied by muscle weakness and the lack of energy. Fatigue should be distinguished from a simple desire to sleep. In any case, as soon as you feel that the symptoms are somehow unusual, check with your doctor.

6. Mood swings

It is still not entirely clear what causes mood swings, but the connection between fluctuations in hormonal levels and your emotional state is visible. The hormones that are responsible for ovulation and the menstrual cycle also help produce serotonin which helps regulate mood. The level of these hormones decreases during menopause and causes mood swings.

7. Digestive Problems

Digestive problems are another side of the hormonal imbalance problem. A decrease in estrogen levels entails an increase in cortisol levels. The low level of cortisol keeps your blood sugar and pressure within normal limits. Indigestion, bloating, flatulence, and other unpleasant sensations in gastrointestinal tract begins with an excess of cortisol. 

8. Sweating

It often happens that a woman is thrown into a fever before and during menopause. And this is one of the most obvious signs of hormonal imbalance. It manifests itself in different ways. For some women, the tides of heat go without sweating at all, while others sweat a lot. About a quarter of women are seriously affected by this symptom.
